In 2013 the new road bridge across the Hatea River in Whangarei was completed, and its opening was celebrated in fine style starting with a Maori challenge to the canoes, to speeches and then the biggest procession ever seen in the town. The tour takes in the pre-dawn joining of the two halves of the bridge, early construction, and the various aspects of the grand opening with canoes, Waka, yachts, procession, and views from differing points around the bridge.
