Formerly known as the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West was initially founded in 1917 to preserve the history of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody in the Wyoming town named after him, Cody. The museum is actually five museums in one: the Buffalo Bill Museum, the Plains Indians Museum, the Whitney Western Art Museum, the Draper Natural History Museum, and the Cody Firearms Museum.
