Lake Samilpo is a freshwater lake that is part of the ‘Mount Kumgang Tourist Region’. According to local tradition, a king from the ancient Silla Kingdom (668–935BC) visited the lake for a day but was so amazed by its beauty that he stayed for three days, hence the name Samil (three days).
