The natural history museum is part of Oxford university. It is housed in a neo-gothic building. The roof consists of more than 8000 seperate glass tiles. The museum is an ideal place for a rainy afternoon (especially with kids) because many of the exhibits can be touched - you are actually encouraged to touch them - and the entrance to the museum is free. So if you ever get to Oxford have a look - the museum is just a 10 minute walk from the city centre.
